Day 15 - Alternatives

Again, back to the wondering...

How can I assure that relationships take top priority...priority over projects or other menial tasks on my "TO DO" list? How can I put people before things and use life as a way to LOVE?

This all got me to thinking about time. We think we have all the time in the world to fulfill our dreams, live our destiny, really make a difference.

But, what if we don't? What if today is ALL we have? There are no guarantees except that God-inspired choices are right for me and for all times.

It's funny...every time I ask for a sign, I tend to get hit over the head with more guidance than I can usually process. My friend and I were discussing this very issue and, after wrapping up our phone call, I came in and read today's Daily Word:

Situations in life are often not as they first appear to be. I may consider a new circumstance or a change to be so drastic that I think I have no choice in the matter...When I turn from concern to inner guidance, I realize that I do have a choice in all that matters to me. I can choose how I respond to life's situations and to those around me--in what I do or do not do.

This went full-circle, directly back to our conversation. WE ALL HAVE A CHOICE! We can choose to prioritize our actions according to work, family, tasks, money, things, relationships. But, in the long run, what is MOST important? When it comes right down to it, it's not the wealth, or the objects, or the things that matter. Character is the only thing that springs eternal. And, character is built from love. "How you treated other people, not your wealth or accomplishments, is the most enduring impact you can leave on earth" (Purpose Driven Life). Can it really be this simple?

Honestly, I don't know. But, what I do know is that when I have a rough day (much like today), the thought of taking Lucy for a walk, or interacting with the kids, makes me smile. My heart is lifted, and all seems right with the world. Simple actions. Simply love.

So, while I continue to grapple with the big picture, I can rest assured that putting GOD first, LOVE in relationships / family second, and CAREER third is the foundation of the balance I seek.

Now, it's just finding time for it all. I think "Sue Time" deserves its own post...because those who know me know that I really do think there are AT LEAST 50 hours in a day!

Image is... How you want people to see you.

Reputation is... How people see you.

Character is... How God sees you and is what you do when only He is looking.

Seek FIRST the Kingdom - the reign of Christ in our hearts!

Our Habits and our Traditions cannot be more important to us than God. Neither can we love our parents, our spouse, or our children more than we love God. And we can't worry about what other church members, friends, neighbors, or co-workers think of us. Pleasing our pastors or deacons or elders cannot mean more to us than pleasing Christ, who should be more precious to us than anything! So even pleasing ourselves - fulfilling our own agendas, wants, needs, desires, or rights, cannot be first in our lives. Many of these things can be modern day idols that steal our hearts away from our true first love.

Jesus says, "Come unto me..." Anyone who knows the truth says, “Come.” Come to the One who has loved you with an everlasting love, look for Him with all your heart, with all your soul, for only then will you find Him. And only when you find Him will the deepest longings of your heart be satisfied.

Sue, thanks for writing, thanks for sharing. --Palmer
