Getting ready to depart for a 5 day, backwoods kayaking adventure in South Carolina. When I first signed up for this trip, I didn't realize that EVERYTHING we will need must fit inside of the two watertight compartments in the kayak. So, I am now sorting through my camping gear, making sure I have my tent, poles, sleeping bag, water and, of course, food.
From our introduction last night, it sounds like the place where we will be camping is nothing short of primitive. No facilities and the only "fresh" water source is actually brackishly uninviting. Apparently, it is guarded by alligators.
More to come. With lots of photos. This won't be nearly as taxing as the 7-day fast. After all, it is not often that I have the opportunity to really kick back, under a cloudless sky, and reflect in the wonders of nature and life. While I try tokeep these in the forefront of my mind during my daily activities, it seems that there is nothing quite like time spent outdoors to refresh and recharge. With nothing but wildlife and marsh, plus a small contingency of other paddlers as my companions, this should prove to be a truly remarkable time of soul-searching and reflection.
See you WEDNESDAY!
